English Teaching & Learning
English Teaching & Learning (ETL) is the first scholarly journal in Taiwan dedicated solely to research on the teaching and learning of English as a second or foreign language. It aims to publish quality papers that contribute to all aspects of the profession, with a particular preference for studies that seek to combine both theory and practice. The journal welcomes submissions on course design, teaching materials, teacher training, teaching methods, language assessment, bilingual education, as well as from the fields of sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and other related areas.

ETL is an international journal with readership comprised of both teachers and researchers in the field of EFL who work in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, as well as in the state and private sectors. In addition to teachers and researchers, readers include teacher trainers, administrators and policy makers occupying positions of responsibility and management in ELT programs and projects.

The journal welcomes submissions on course design, teaching materials, teacher training, teaching methods, language assessment, bilingual education, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and other related areas. We welcome research papers all year round.

Information for Contributors

1.    Academic integrity. Manuscripts that have been published or are presently being submitted for publication elsewhere are not considered. It is the responsibility of the author(s) of a manuscript submitted to ETL to inform the editors of any similar work that has been published or is being considered elsewhere.
Authorship should be attributed only to those making significant contributions to conception, design, execution or interpretation of the study. Authors should present an accurate account of their original research in addition to an objective discussion of its significance. Authors should acknowledge all sources of data used in the research and cite publications that have been influential in the study, as well as sources of financial support. It is the responsibility of the authors to obtain written permission for the inclusion of any tables, figures, photographic images or artwork for which they do not have copyright. 2.    Review process. To facilitate the blind review process, the author’s name should not appear on the title page; all identifying information should be removed from the body of the paper. (For more detailed information, see “Publication Ethics.”)
All properly submitted manuscripts will be sent out for peer review shortly after receipt. Authors will be informed of the status of their article once the peer reviews have been received and processed. Reviewer comments will be shared with the author.
Once an article has been accepted for publication, a publication fee of NT$ 3000 will be charged to the author. Further instructions regarding revision and submission of the final copy will be sent directly to the author.

3.    Language. Only manuscripts written in English will be accepted for review. If English is not the first language of the author, the author may want to have the manuscript edited for language use prior to submission.  This is not necessary, but it may prevent misunderstandings of the research or the content of the paper by the journal editors and reviewers. However, language editing does not guarantee that the manuscript will be accepted for publication, and the author is liable for all costs associated with such services.

4.    Place of submission. Manuscripts can be submitted online at http://aspers.airiti.com/ETLv2. Online registration is required. Manuscripts can also be submitted by e-mail to etl@deps.ntnu.edu.tw. Each submission must include the following:
(a) Basic Information Form;
(b) ETL Contributor’s Declaration Form;
(c) ETL Copyright Authorization Form and the submitted manuscript. All the forms are available at theETL website:


5.    Length. An English manuscript should not exceed 10,000 words, and should be accompanied by abstracts of no more than 200 words. Three key words should be supplied with the abstracts.

6.    Style. All English manuscripts must be typewritten throughout (including references, notes, citations, figures and tables) on one side only of A4 paper with the default margins of Word 2003/ 2007/ 2010, and single-spaced. Times New Roman 12 must be used as the font.
The journal mainly follows the style guidelines of the Publication Manual of the AmericanPsychological Association (APA). For further details about manuscript style, please download the style sheet at the bottom of the page for reference.

7.    Copyright and permissions. Copies of any letters granting permission to use or reproduce copyrighted materials are the author’s responsibility and should be submitted with the manuscript.

8.    Editorial changes. The editors have the right to make editorial changes in any manuscript accepted for publication.

9.    Author’s copies. The author(s) of each article will receive one complimentary copy of the issue in which the article is published and ten off-prints of the article. The author(s) may also order additional copies of that issue at reduced rates.
